For our Youth. For our Future...
The Los Angeles County Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs (LA
Alliance) is comprised of 27 Boys & Girls Club organizations
serving approximately 120,000 kids in 88 Los Angeles County Clubs. About 67 percent of the kids we serve live at or below the
Federal Poverty Level. About half live in households with a
single “parent”. Our mission is to “inspire and enable
all youth, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances,
to realize their full potential, to become productive and
responsible citizens.”
The LA Alliance recently were introduced to the movie RevoLOUtion, that deals with tough issues that currently
face not only our Los Angeles youth, but troubled youth everywhere. The movie deals with issues, such as child abuse, teen depression, street
“survival”, and the need to develop a self “worth”—
issues leading toward healing, self-discovery, communication
and mentoring.
What struck me most about the film is how the movie could be
used as a tool to openly explore and create dialogue around
some of the film’s central themes—themes not
atypical for many of our Boys & Girls Club teens. Despite the need to address these issues, there are relatively
few forums or opportunities in which kids can freely and
honestly express themselves.
The LA Alliance would like to partner with you and Providence Productions for the specific
purpose of showing this film to 9th-12th graders, served by our
Clubs. In so doing, special viewings, to be held at a LA
theater once daily (4 p.m. show), and twice daily on the
weekend, April 28 – May 5, would be made available to our Club
youth, and to other non-profit agencies that also address these
critical real life issues.
At the film’s conclusion, a trained facilitator would interact
with the students to encourage open discussion, and to shed
light on various issues, perspectives, etc. Students would
later be asked to write a journal entry on their thoughts, and
those that wished to, could submit them for publication and
possible award recognition. We hope that you will be present during one or several of the viewings.
A $50,000 sponsorship gift made by you,
will provide for needed transportation and program
costs involved, allowing as many Angelino youth as possible to
participate in this film and educational experience. Importantly, as a highly recognized and respected member of our
community, your endorsement and sponsorship owill provide much needed leverage to create awareness of
these critical issues facing our youth through media and public
outlets, while also shining light on your own Foundation, and
the worthy programs that it supports.
Impressed with the film
and its endeavor to serve the missions of youth organizations,
a number of top publications are already excited to run feature
articles.
In addition or if you prefer, we could lternatively and quickly plan a fundraising event as a LA premiere to match or
underwrite the $50, 000 needed to best serve LA teens. You
may also choose to have a countertop displays, which
would promote the special program or discounted ticket to your
patrons.
It would be a pleasure and honor to work with you and your
Foundation. By partnering with the LA Alliance, 27 Clubs could participate and thousands of teens throughout LA will benefit from your visionary and leadership
support. Bret Carr, the director, and Stephen Polk, the producer of
RevoLOUtion, and I would be most happy to meet with you to
discuss the details. As the dates selected for the viewings
are fast approaching, we hope to hear back from you soon.
Working together, we can make a positive impact on our youth - and our future.
